Open energy and ecology fairs

In Hall 1 of the Belgrade Fair, the 18th International Energy Fair and the 19th International Fair of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources – EcoFair – were opened today.

Under the common slogan “Clean energy for a brighter future”, during the three-day work of these two manifestations, more than 80 exhibitors will present themselves, especially from Germany, Hungary, Romania, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and even China, Israel , DR Congo, Ghana.

Opening this unique economic and educational event, the Minister of Mining and Energy in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, emphasized the fact that energy and ecology are inseparable and that this event is a contribution to such a relationship, and that energy security and efficiency are perhaps the most exclusive topics today. .

“During the previous year, very important results were achieved for the citizens. Citizens, more than a million of them, are motivated to reduce their bills through more rational consumption of electricity. More than 20,000 citizens were stimulated by state measures and subsidies to make their homes more energy efficient and the environment cleaner; assistance was granted, that is, benefits were provided to socially vulnerable citizens with low incomes and pensions,” said the minister.

According to her, work is also being done to increase investments in the energy sector, especially when it comes to renewable energy sources – nine new green power plants, new jobs, impact on GDP growth and the construction industry, etc. Even in EPS, production is stable and safe, landfills and reservoirs are full. The revitalization of the Đerdap I hydropower plant has been completed, and the construction of the third block of the Kostolac Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 350 MW is nearing completion. The plant for desulfurization of sulfur dioxide and powdery substances in TENT A is nearing completion. Gas reserves are at an enviable level, and the connection with Bulgaria is being completed. Gas supply from Azerbaijan is also provided. Technical documentation for the oil pipeline between Serbia and Hungary is being prepared.

The minister emphasized that 15 billion euros will be needed for the development of the energy sector in the next ten years, especially for the construction of reversible power plants, wind and solar power plants, gas interconnections and oil storage facilities. After several decades, a cycle of investments in the distribution system, worth more than 180 million euros, was launched.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia, State Secretary Sandra Dokić pointed out all the negative consequences of the irrational use of natural resources and the measures that the competent ministry and the Government of Serbia are taking to deal with them.

She apostrophized, among other things, the project of reducing the carbon footprint of local communities by applying the principles of circular economy in the Republic of Serbia (in cooperation with UN institutions, a total of 25 innovative ideas were received from scientific and research organizations, which were appropriately evaluated, and 35 innovative projects will also be co-financed for their implementation); six initiatives were supported to integrate informal collectors of secondary raw materials into formal waste management flows. “Accept the circular challenge” is an action that shows that companies are ready to face the recommendations of the “Green Agenda” and to serve as examples of good practice.

During the previous three years, 900 wild landfills were cleaned, and a dozen unsanitary landfills located near populated areas were rehabilitated. Additional emphasis is placed on wastewater treatment plants throughout Serbia, including the construction of a 100 km sewage network.

Through public tenders, significant funds were allocated for the replacement of boiler rooms in heating plants and public institutions, as well as individual fireplaces of over 3,000 citizens.
