Đedović: We are coordinating with the Hungarians the technical parameters for the construction of the joint oil pipeline

The Minister of Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović stated today at a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, as well as MOL, Naftne industrije Srbije (NIS) and Transnafta regarding the construction of the Serbia-Hungary oil pipeline that technical parameters, such as oil quantities and tariffs, as well as other operational issues, need to be harmonized, so that the project can be implemented smoothly in accordance with the plan until 2027 on the Serbian side.

On that occasion, she pointed out that progress was made on the Serbian side in the preparation of project-technical documentation and stressed that the Spatial Plan of the Special Purpose Area was adopted, as well as that the Conceptual Solution and drafts of the Conceptual Project and the Justification Study were prepared, the ministry announced.

The next meeting is planned for the beginning of July, with the aim of harmonizing the commercial and technical agreement as soon as possible, in accordance with the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding, while the operational teams will continue intensive work on the preparation of all the necessary steps for the realization of the project.

“Finding the location conditions is in progress, followed by the preparation of the project for the construction permit as well as the Environmental Impact Assessment Study with the aim of starting the works as soon as possible,” said the minister.

Đedović Handanović also stated that the construction of the oil pipeline is a strategically important project for the two countries and assessed that the construction of the pipeline will enable Serbia to obtain crude oil through Hungary, which will further strengthen its energy security.

Also, she pointed out that based on the signed Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of the Serbia-Hungary oil pipeline, in the presence of President Vučić and Prime Minister Orban, a strong political message was sent about the strategic importance of that project for the diversification of crude oil supply.

“Just as Hungary is reliably supplied with gas via Serbia via the Balkan Stream, and Serbia stores part of its reserves in Hungary, the construction of this pipeline will enable Serbia to receive crude oil via Hungary, which will further strengthen its energy security,” said the minister.
